Facing Black, the lightbox work, I’ve returned to the ‘Old Masters’ to explore a pictorial view on world history of trade and culture, using abstract text to generate a conversation around legacy and impact.
An area of fascination for me is the relationship between photography and painting, historically and within contemporary arts practice. I am interested in how both painting and photography feed off by influencing each other towards new forms of expression.
For this work, I have worked in a range of museums in England and Europe, including: Alte Pinakothek Munich, Gemäldegalerie Berlin, Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, Victoria & Albert Museum, National Gallery, Wellcome collection & National Portrait Gallery London and Metropolitan Museum New York.
